The iconic multi-million dollar Ferrari F40, once owned by F1 champion Nigel Mansell, just got a special deep cleaning.

Restorations and detailing projects are always an interesting sight, but when the car in question is a celebrity, it’s a different kind of fun.

This deep clean was pretty intense too, involving dry ice and lasers.

What’s more, the entire process took a whole month from start to finish.

Ferrari F40 once owned by Nigel Mansell gets a makeover

It’s no mystery that Nigel Mansell and his Ferrari collection made waves, but his F40 is a rare gem even today.

While the F1 champion sold several of his Ferraris a few years ago, he parted with the F40 long before that.

Whoever owns it now gave it to the guys at the California-based firm I Am Detailing, who posted the restoration video on their YouTube channel.

These are the same folks who gave Wayne Gretzky’s Rolls-Royce a million-dollar makeover and restored a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL.

So, what’s the deal with Nigel Mansell’s old Ferrari F40?

Since this car is a piece of history, it received VIP treatment and more than just a power wash and detailing work.

The detailers first thoroughly inspected the car and gave it a proper ‘bath’ to see its real face.

Next up, they used a laser to get rid of the rust forming on its bolts and washers.

Then they used more lasers and dry ice to clean any irregularities on the brakes and wheel mounts.

Not just a power wash

The actual goal was to make it look impeccable — which turned out to be a slow but promising process.

After meticulously cleaning and buffing the windows and evening out the paint, the Ferrari F40 looked almost brand new again.

It’s certainly satisfying to watch a car get restored, but when it’s a Ferrari F40 it takes things to a whole new level.

The Ferrari F40 was the last car to get approval from Enzo Ferrari himself, which is part of the reason why enthusiasts love it so much.

Some love it so much that they’re even attempting to build an F40 from scratch.

Now that’s passion.
