Starsky and Hutch is one of the biggest TV shows in history, starring Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul as the eponymous detectives.
One of the other stars was the gorgeous 1976 Ford Gran Torino, several of which were used in the show’s filming.
Thankfully, at least a few examples of TV show cars have survived today.
Some have also sold for auction, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to determine which are genuine and which are copies, due to the number of replicas flooding the classic car market.

The Petersen Museum has a Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino
The vast Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, America, has one of the largest automotive collections in the world.
In February 2023, one of the star cars was on display at the Petersen. The museum described it as “Car #1” from the hit TV show.
That particular Gran Torino gave museum visitors a great insight into the show’s filming.
It was still equipped with one of the cameras used during filming, and it even had an autograph from both Paul Michael Glasser and David Soul.

The Petersen Museum gives fans of the show a real chance to see part of its history.
However, not all the original Gran Torinos have been as lucky. In fact, many are either gone altogether, hidden away, or lost amidst the replicas.
Genuine Starsky Torinos can sell for big money
Despite their obscurity, the cars can still sell for big money.
Slash Gear states that in 2014, one of the original cars went up for auction and sold for $40,000.
Even replicas can sell well, with a 1976 Gran Torino dressed up to look like the TV show’s car sold for $35,200 in 2022.

A film version of the show aired in 2004, but even that didn’t use an original Gran Torino from the TV classic. Instead, it used the special edition of the Gran Torino that Ford had made to celebrate the show.
The film’s producers also said none of the original cars were available to them at the time, hence the need to use the special editions.
