Buying an expensive supercar is just half of the cost as new owners soon realize how much these high-performance cars cost to be serviced.

Maintaining a supercar is no easy task as these vehicles are rarely designed for ease of maintenance.

A similar task that would just take a few hours on a Toyota could consume five days on a McLaren.

So today we try to explain why it costs so much to service a supercar.

Supercar servicing

On average, supercar maintenance costs about 30 percent more than a regular luxury car.

And delaying servicing is not an option here as these are high-performance cars, that push their engines to the extreme limit.

So ignoring or delaying simple maintenance like changing your engine oil or your brake fluid can cause issues.

Unfortunately, it’s not cheap to change the engine oil either.

For example, a simple oil change in a Bugatti Veyron costs $21,000 and takes 27 hours to finish.

Maintenance costs

“If you only consider non-accidental damage like wear and tear, owners are often looking at maintenance costs of about 5-10 percent of the purchase price, just in the first year itself,” says Arvaan Joshi, manager of the Super Car Club India.

“Nowadays, service centers for supercar brands do not repair but replace parts,” he added.

These parts are far from cheap and are often hard to come by.

Even if you manage to your hands on these rare parts, most supercars require purpose-built tools.

In addition to that, not every mechanic can service such a high-performance car.

For example, Ferrari’s 7-Year Genuine Maintenance service is only carried out by highly qualified technicians, who have been trained at the Ferrari Training Centre in Maranello, Italy.
