The owner of an ‘irreplaceable’ Tesla-powered 1969 VW crew cab has been left devastated after it was stolen and found on its roof.

The car belonged to Richard Morgan, the owner of UK-based Electric Classic Cars which – as its name suggests – converts vintage vehicles into EVs.

Among the many conversions Morgan has done over the years, was his own dark green VW Type 2.

Sadly, Morgan’s beloved Volkswagen was stolen from outside his auto shop and discovered days later upside down on a country lane.

Converting the VW bus was a real labor of love

It probably goes without saying that converting a classic gas-powered car into an EV is no easy task – just ask this Canadian businessman who spent four years and almost lost his family turning his Rolls-Royce Phantom into an all-electric

But in 2015, Richard Morgan, from Powys in Wales, decided to open up Electric Classic Cars and make a living turning vintage vehicles into more economical all-electrics

Since then, he and his team have converted more than 70 vehicles, including his very own 1969 VW crew cab.

The VW had originally been used as a fire engine in South Africa and was painstakingly converted into an EV by Morgan, Powys County Times reported.

The project had been a labor of love from Morgan who poured hours into the conversion and once complete, was kept in pristine condition and used as a family car.

The one-off vehicle had also been loaned out for special occasions and was even used in a funeral for a family friend.

The Volkswagen was stolen and found on its roof

After many years of ownership, the VW was stolen from outside Morgan’s auto shop last month.

After noticing it was missing, the car enthusiast put out a request on social media for people to keep an eye out for his beloved bus.

Unfortunately, when the crew cab was found it wasn’t good news.

The thief had taken the VW crew cab out and ended up crashing it and rolling it onto its roof, where it was later discovered.

As you might imagine, that smash caused a lot of damage to the vintage vehicle.

Thankfully, Morgan is an expert when it comes to all things automotive, and in a clip he shared on YouTube, he said despite the extensive damage to the EV he was fairly confident he could rebuild it.

“It’s a sad situation but these things happen in life and I’m not dwelling on the negatives I’m going to look at the positives,” he said in the clip.

“We’re  going to rebuild and it will live again.”

Here’s hoping the beloved Volkswagen bus is back on the road very soon.
