The Renault 5 is one of the most iconic hatchback cars of its generation.

The French brand originally produced the iconic car for 24 years.

Recently, Renault released a supercar version based on the EV model of the historic vehicle.

And it is, in short, incredible.

Renault 5: The car that defined an era

French brands have always been pretty good at producing small, agile, and extremely fun cars.

Examples include the Peugeot 205, the Alpine A110, and a whole host of others.

However, Renault managed to produce one of the most iconic hot hatchbacks of them all.

In 1972, the Renault 5 was released, and immediately received universal praise.

The 5 was actually far ahead of its time.

It launched three years before the Volkswagen Polo and four years before the Ford Fiesta.

Eight years later, the legend was born that led us to today.

In 1980, the French brand revealed the 5 Turbo, a rear mid-engine, rear-wheel drive version of the base car.

It was released at the Brussels Motor Show to comply with the rules that allow for the car to compete in rallying.

The car was powered by a 1.4-liter, turbocharged, inline-four engine.

When it was released, demand for the car massively exceeded the number produced.

The World’s first electric mini supercar?

In 2024, the 5 moniker was officially dusted off and revived.

The Geneva International Motor Show saw the unveiling of the Renault 5 E-Tech.

The brand’s revived 5 been released to extremely positive reviews, and not just for reasons of nostalgia.

It is considered to be priced reasonably low compared to many of its rivals.

Reviews have also considered it to be extremely fun to drive, much like its 1980s predecessor.

Now, the company has really gone all-out – and it might be one of the most brilliant EVs yet.

Renault have finally unveiled the 5 Turbo 3E, and it is absolutely insane.

For one thing, its stunning color scheme is a throwback to the 1982 Renault 5 Turbo rally car.

But it’s under the hood that the 5 Turbo 3E stuns and impresses.

The new car is exclusively rear-wheel drive, and is built on a brand-new platform that gives it supercar width within supercar length.

The electric motors all combine to produce some genuinely staggering numbers.

For one thing, this small electric car produces 540HP, as well as a top speed of 168MPH.

The new EV will also be able to charge from 15 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes.

How much will this EV supercar fun set you back?

Well, for one thing, it will be a gamble on the interior – because nobody has actually seen it yet.

Renault have promised bucket seats, as well as a vertical, old-school handbrake.

However, they have also promised that buyers will be able to work with Renault to customize their 5 Turbo to whatever specification they like.

Speaking of buyers, the official cost hasn’t been released either – but it’s not going to come cheap.

Reports suggest a starting price of around $170,000 – which is astonishing for an electric vehicle.

But the hits keep on coming – with customisation options, the cost could well sail north of $250,000.

That, admittedly, is an awful lot of money for an electric car – even if it is a Renault 5 Turbo regen.

That being said, if this 5 Turbo 3E doesn’t get you excited, then we’re not sure what will.
