The Swedish auto manufacturing community isn’t exactly known for its muscle car pedigree.
Admittedly, they might be the best in the world when it comes to hypercars and SUVs.
However, the muscle car concept never really appears to by synonymous with Scandinavia.
Except maybe it actually should be – and it went completely unnoticed.

Volvo P1800 Cyan: Swedish tribute to the 1960s
In case you’re wondering what exactly it is we’re referring to, allow us to explain
We are talking about a very special Swedish muscle car called the Volvo P1800 Cyan.
Technically, the ‘Volvo’ tag is slightly misleading, because this car wasn’t actually built by Volvo.
Instead, it was built as a tribute to a Volvo model from the 1960s, albeit with a serious modern twist.
This P1800 is built by an outfit called Cyan Racing, a Swedish company with a lot of pedigree.

In fact, you might recognize this group by their former name – Polestar Racing.
The company made its name in touring car championships before switching to building special road cars.
And that is exactly what Cyan Racing have managed to achieve with the P1800.
What exactly is the Volvo P1800 Cyan?
In case you might be a bit confused, here’s the breakdown.
The P1800 Cyan is built with the original Volvo P1800 shape, but almost everything else is different.
Instead, this car is built entirely of carbon fiber, so it weighs just 2,200 pounds.

Throw in a manual transmission and a turbo engine and you have a purists dream.
This car was unveiled by Cyan in 2020, and it barely got any traction at all.
In fact, most people barely even know it exists, which is both surprising and sad in equal measure.
What makes the P1800 Cyan tick?
So, we’ve covered the pedigree and the origin story of the P1800.
But what actually makes the Swedish muscle car tick?
It just so happens to be 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The 0-60 time is just four seconds, and the top speed is around 174MPH.
This power source produces 420BHP – which, for a car that weighs just 2,200 pounds, is serious.
The engine is a Cyan original, borrowed from their world-championship winning touring cars.

The highly tuned engine delivers its peak performance at around 7,000RPM.
It also comes with a five-speed manual gearbox that transfers the power to both rear wheels.
What sets this car apart, though, is the lack of electronic aids or intervention.
There’s no ABS system, nor is there traction control – this car is a pure balance between man and machine.
The steering setup also happens to be unassisted, and the brakes are old school, four-piston caliper steel discs.
In a world of technology and innovation, this muscle car is as pure a driving machine as you might ever find.
Frankly, we love the Volvo P1800 Cyan, and we salute the heritage that it represents.
