As if the Saudi Arabia giga-project, The Line, could get more impressive, it’s been revealed that it will use technology to ensure a perfectly balanced climate.
Part of the broader $1 trillion, NEOM, project, The Line looks set to be its biggest attraction.
The horizontally-laid city will be on a mammoth scale extending for 160 km and it’ll be 200 meters wide.

The name NEOM is derived from the first three letters from the Ancient Greek prefix neo – meaning ‘new’.
The letter ‘m’ is the first letter of the name of His Royal Highness Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Chairman of the NEOM Company Board of Directors.
The ‘M’ is also the first from ‘Mustaqbal’, an Arabic word meaning ‘future’.
However touted as “the future of urban living” there’s more to this huge city than meets the eye.
The city will be zero-carbon, due to the elimination of cars and roads and using 100% renewable energy.
An advanced public transportation system will help residents get around.
Namely a high-speed rail with an end-to-end journey time of 20 minutes.
The integration of nature and open spaces throughout will serve an important role in enhancing air quality.
However, to enjoy those green spaces the weather has to be perfect.
Located in the temperate northwest of Saudi Arabia, NEOM will have a diverse climate to enjoy for those. living and working there.
With both sun-soaked beaches and snow-capped mountains – what could be better?
But developers behind the project are leaving nothing to chance.
“To ensure the establishment of microclimatic spaces, the environment has been carefully designed to allow for an optimal balance of sunlight, shade and natural ventilation,” they explained.
Given it is one of the complex infrastructure projects the world has ever seen, on a scale of its own, everybody is keen to view how developments are unfolding.
The aim is to complete the project by 2030 and new drone footage shows how fast progress is being made.
