After buying the most affordable plane on the market, this brilliant young pilot from Indiana has revealed just how cheap it was for him to fly halfway around America.
This enterprising YouTuber managed to scrape together enough money to get himself a plane, and got a great deal in the process.
Well, a great deal for the length of the journey, anyway.
So, let’s take a look at the cost breakdown, shall we?

Most affordable plane in the US bought by young pilot
Don’t get us wrong there are technically cheaper planes, such as the freebie restoration project, but for running costs, this might just be the most affordable plane ever.
YouTube personality and trained pilot Ethan McIntosh recently bought a 2C experimental Sonnex kit plane after saving up for months.
The Indiana man graduated from the Professional Flight program at Purdue University and currently serves as an instructor at AirLink flight school in Waterville, Maine.
In an upload to his channel, he revealed that the plane cost $16,000, where he planned to make a 1,600+ mile trip to Maine from Illinois.
Some further digging into the plane shows that it was first made by Harold Albright in Ohio back in 2008, and took to the air for the first time on August 9 of the same year.
Since then, it was sold to a man in Illinois in 2009, where it stayed until it landed in McIntosh’s care.
But its real beauty is just how cheap it runs.
Having been bought for the same price as a standard road car, its petrol consumption blows cars out of the water…and into the sky.
Indiana man reveals low costs of plane flight from Illinois to Maine
McIntosh’s first journey would be from Illinois to Maine, where he would fly over his home state of Indiana.
The round trip cost the young pilot a mere $324, after making 1,650 miles in 11.5 hours of flight time and burning just 48 gallons of gas.
In comparison, the cheapest one-way airline ticket for the same trip was around $366, meaning it was more cost-efficient to fly himself home – and he wouldn’t have to worry about sitting next to a crying baby.
Without having to face traffic and annoying road users, maybe taking to the skies is the best option after all.
Other relatively cheap planes have been copped recently too, as the trend is catching on, although this Facebook Marketplace bargain is a money-saver for a different reason.
