The Koenigsegg Gemera is a “power monster, but a friendly monster”.

Those are the words from the founder and CEO himself, Christian von Koenigsegg.

The boss of one of the most insane automotive brands in the world gave a tour of his Gemera TC1 (Test Car 1) prototype in a new YouTube video.

After describing the 1700hp (and 400km/h) hypercar as a monster, he went on to say: “I mean it’s so easy and fun to drive and it just gives this unique experience that I’ve never experienced before”.

Unlike a fully-electric hypercar, the 4-seater Koenigsegg has three electric motors that work alongside a three-cylinder engine so it can still roar through the exhaust.

About the Koenigsegg Gemera

The Gemera was first shown in the early part of 2020 and it caught people by surprise because no one was expecting Koenigsegg to build a four-seater grand-tourer.

Now, two years down the line, the Gemera is edging closer to hitting the roads.

It’s a technical masterpiece: the engine is a 2.0-litre twin-turbo I3, working together with three electric motors.

There’s one for each rear wheel and one on the crankshaft – and a 15 kWh battery pack, giving it an electric-only range of 50km.

This is just a test car, and it delivers 1,600hp and it weighs about 1.5 ton.

However, thanks to the high-tech hybrid powertrain, the production version should be capable of delivering 1,700hp and a whopping 8,113 lb-ft of torque (on E85 fuel), giving it a 0-100km/h time of just 1.9 seconds.

We were lucky enough to check out the Koenigsegg Gemera when it was in Dubai. You can check out the video below.

What about the top speed? Well it’s ‘only’ 299km/h (186mp/h)… in electric mode.

Alternatively, you can use all the engines and it’ll reach 400km/h (249mp/h).

It only has two doors but it has four seats, because Koenigsegg wanted to make this a comfortable hypercar.

This is why it is also fitted with four touchscreens, for the driver and passenger in the front, as well as for the two people sitting in the back.

The Gamera also comes with an 11-speaker sound system, climate control and built-in WiFi.

Production is limited to 300 units.
