A brand new McLaren P1 customised by Lanzante has just been revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Lanzante said it created the P1 Spider to be “even more engaging”.

It won’t be a one-off either, as the company is planning to build a limited run of five cars.

Check out these photos the Supercar Blondie team took at the festival this week.

The company wanted to make sure the conversion from coupé to convertible was handled sympathetically.

So, Lanzante turned straight to Paul Howse – the man who penned the original lines of the P1.

Removing the roof wasn’t the simple task it would normally be, as the normal P1’s air intake is a snorkel that sits atop it.

That’s why the changes extend far beyond the open-air cockpit, with the doors, front fenders, and rear engine cover all altered.

A pair of buttresses sit behind the P1 Spider’s two seats, with these now acting as the air intakes for the V8’s two turbochargers.

The interior is also updated, using materials that are better suited to handling the sun and other elements.

In photos the Supercar Blondie team took at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the interior features orange leather and SuperFabric.

The brake calipers match too.

While the bodywork has been extensively altered, the P1’s engine and performance remains unchanged from the coupé.

This includes its chassis and suspension systems, with the RaceActive Chassis Control System remaining unaltered.

It’s unclear how much the conversion process will cost, but a donor P1 coupé is currently worth around $1.8-2.0 million based on current listings.
