Bombardier says its new jet, the Global 8000, has broken the sound barrier in testing.

In the test, the plane could “repeatably [achieve] speeds in excess of Mach 1.015 (1253km/h or 778mph),” breaking the sound barrier.

It’s a big deal for a non-military jet, and it’s even faster than Bombardier thought.

The Global 8000 (which will set you back $78 million) was supposed to max out at Mach 0.94 – that’s equivalent to 1161km/h or 721mph.

The stats of the private jet would make it the world’s fastest and longest-range jet.

The plane is called Global 8000 because it can fly 8000 nautical miles (14,816km).

That’s far enough to fly from London to Chicago and back again, and still have fuel in the tank.

It’s the speed of Bombardier’s latest model in these tests that is most impressive.

That would make the Bombardier Global 8000 the fastest non-military plane since the legendary Concorde.

A clever wing design gives it an incredibly smooth ride, while HEPA air filters give it healthy cabin air.

It also has the lowest cabin altitude of any private jet as well, with cabin pressure similar to that at 2900ft even when cruising above 41,000ft.

And of course, there are all the luxuries you would expect.

One of the coolest features are zero-gravity seats which reduce pressure on passengers’ lower backs.

Special cabin lighting also helps get rid of jet lag for passengers as well.

There’s also a full bedroom with ensuite, living and conference rooms, an entertainment area, and a kitchen as well.

First deliveries of the Bombardier Global 8000 are slated for 2025.

Bombardier said the Global 8000 will cost $78 million.
