Mercedes-Maybach has once again created a one-off and elegant car: the yacht-inspired S-Class S 680.
The rare and unique model celebrates the 150th anniversary of luxury yacht broker, Robbe & Berking.
The über-rare vehicle was inspired by the legendary SPHINX 12mR yacht.

The yacht that inspired it all

The SPHINX, aka the ‘night-blue beauty’ was the first classic wooden yacht to be restored by the shipyard.
In fact, the racing yacht’s 2008 restoration was the very thing that led to the Robbe & Berking Classics shipyard being established.
The ultra-luxury sedan was inspired by the shipyard’s historic first 12mR boat.

The classic SPHINX was originally built in 1939.
It was 21.48 m (70.47 ft) long.
As well as vessels inspiring cars, it works the other way too – the first Lamborghini 63 speedboat in North America recently hit the water.

Just like the yacht that inspired it, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 anniversary vehicle has a stunning two-tone finish.
The immaculate paintwork consists of a nautical shade of blue metallic in the upper section and a bright Patagonia red on the lower bodywork.
Daniel Lescow, head of Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, made a statement.

“Like the yacht SPHINX, our exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S-Class anniversary vehicle epitomizes craftsmanship, elegance, and attention to detail,” he began.
“We congratulate Robbe & Berking on their anniversary and look forward to continuing our successful collaboration.”
Step aboard and the interior of the one-off Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan is finished in Maybach’s exclusive nappa leather.

The crystal white with diamond quilting of the seats, headliner, door center panels, and storage compartment under the central display is reflective of the elegance of life aboard a superyacht.
“This wonderful anniversary vehicle is another sign of the friendship that has long connected Maybach and Robbe & Berking,” Oliver Berking, managing director of Robbe & Berking GmbH said.

“We are also united by shared passions: craftsmanship, the finest materials, and timelessly beautiful lines – on the road as well as on the water and on the table.”
The Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet is already considered a superyacht for the road.
In other news from the brand, this Mercedes-Maybach 19-foot luxury convertible concept has been brought to life by a Russian garage.

All Supercar Blondie contributors undergo editorial review and fact-checking to ensure accuracy and authority in automotive journalism. After gaining her BA Hons in French and English at the University of Nottingham, Amelia embarked on a vocational diploma from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ). This led to numerous opportunities, from interning at Vogue to being on the small team that launched Women’s Health magazine in the UK, which was named the PPA Consumer magazine of the year for three years running. As Health, Beauty and Fitness editor, Amelia personally received a Johnson & Johnson Award and was shortlisted for both PPA and BSME titles. Since then, Amelia has created content for numerous titles and brands, including the Telegraph, 111 Skin, Waitrose, Red magazine, Stylist, and Elle, as well as being Head of Content at Vitality and Editor in Chief at INLondon magazine. “My superpower is translating technical jargon about the mechanical workings of a supercar into a relatable story you’ll want to share with your friends after you’ve read it.” After joining the SB Media family as a senior journalist in September of 2023, Amelia’s role has evolved to see her heading up the SEO output of the editorial team. From researching the most ‘Google-able’ key terms to producing evergreen content - it’s been a time of hard work, growth, and success for the editorial team and the Supercar Blondie website. “I like to think of myself as a ‘method journalist’. In other words: I live and breathe whatever I am writing about. When writing about fitness, I trained as a personal trainer, and as a beauty editor, I completed an ‘expert’ in scent diploma with the Fragrance Foundation. “During my tenure at Supercar Blondie, however, I did something I never thought possible: I passed my driving test at the age of 36. One day I’d love to train as a mechanic to better understand what happens under the hood, too. “My sweet spot is providing readers with a ‘takeaway’ (read: something new they didn’t know before) after reading every one of my stories. While I don’t claim to be an expert in the automotive world, I know the experts and bodies in the field to rely on to provide our readers with an informative and thought-provoking story every time they visit the site.”
