This is the REC 901 RWB Rotana – a watch made out of a vintage Porsche 911.
Maybe it doesn’t have the catchiest name in the world, but it’s certainly got a unique origin story.
But don’t worry: no Porsche was harmed in the making of it.

So, how does it work?
REC Watches was founded in Denmark in 2011 with a very simple but brilliant idea in mind.
The company makes its watches with components salvaged from vintage cars and bikes that are undergoing restoration.

Previously, REC has made watches from classic Ford Mustangs, old Minis, classic Land Rovers, Triumph motorcycles, and even Spitfire aircrafts.
With every purchase, you get a little a booklet telling the story behind the donor vehicle that made your watch possible.

This particular model features a dial crafted using bits of the hood of a 1995 Porsche 911 993 customised by Rauh-Welt Begriff.
RWB is a well-known Japanese tuning company that started a small workshop in 1997 building crazy wide-body Porsches.
Every element of the watch is designed as a tribute to the 911 that its case materials were sourced from.

The caseback, for example, takes its inspiration from the wheels fitted to that Porsche.
The day and date sub-dials on the watch resemble the oil temperature/pressure gauges.
You even have the iconic ‘Rauh-Welt’ script printed on the glass.

It’s a big watch, measuring 44mm in diameter and tipping the scales at 130 grams.
But then again, that’s the whole point, considering it is essentially a tribute to a loud, wonderful, and utterly mad car.
The watch is powered by a Japanese Miyota automatic movement and limited to 305 units only, priced at $1795 each.

You even get to choose which serial number you’d like, so you can pick a number meaningful to you.
However, most have sold already, and the other watch REC made from an RWB Porsche is sold out.
