Zenith watch with bits of tires in the backdrop

There’s definitely a booming market for ultra-complicated sports watches that cost the same as a family car and Zenith has jumped right in with its latest chronograph.

People love these watches, especially when there’s a lot happening on the dial.

There’s also an interesting and quirky twist here because components of the watch are actually made using recycled Extreme E racing cars.

This watch was launched by Zenith as a tribute to the Extreme E series, a Dakar-style championship for electric off-road vehicles that was created a few years ago by the same guy who runs Formula E.

The championship consists of five races that usually take place in remote locations characterized by extreme weather conditions like glaciers and deserts.

That is the whole concept of the watch: an exotic and robust go-anywhere, do-anything timepiece with a case that looks like it was carved from a piece of rock.

Underneath the dial, you’ll find the upgraded high-performance variant of Zenith’s iconic El Primero movement that powers it, complete with a chronograph function which is a must in a motorsport-themed watch.

There’s something else worth noting here because Zenith – some people may not know this – used to make movements for Rolex, including for some iterations of the legendary Daytona.

The strap is made from a combination of Cordura, a type of synthetic fiber, and recycled rubber that comes straight from the Continental CrossContact tires.

You also get a black velcro strap and a black rubber strap included in the box

Priced at $27,100, it’s certainly not cheap.

But it’s limited to 20 pieces only, so you can safely expect this to be sold out in a matter of hours.
