Denzel's Porsche 911 Turbo front three quarter

Denzel Washington’s classic Porsche 911 Turbo sold on Bring a Trailer for a little more than $400,000, and there’s a story behind that final price.

The new owner paid exactly $405,993 after 29 bids, and that’s the magic number: 993.

This number is crucial because this is a 993-era 911, fitted with a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre flat-six.

That iconic engine sends about 408 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels courtesy of a six-speed manual with a limited-slip rear differential.

Denzel bought it new back in the late 1990s and has driven it for 18,145 miles before parting ways with it.

No one else has owned this car until now and it was sold with a clean California title.

As you’d expect from a top-notch, no-nonsense actor like Denzel, the car is tastefully specced with black paint, standard 18-inch wheels on Michelin Pilot Sport N2 tyres with red calipers, and matching black-on-black upholstery for the interior.

It’s raw and simple, but at the same time it is also well equipped, fitted with power seats, cruise control, climate control, xenon headlamps and a gorgeous ducktail-style spoiler at the back.

Any vintage car that’s even remotely rare or valuable ends up selling for more than a house these days, so once you factor in who the former owner was, the condition and the relative rarity of the car, $400,000 really doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
