The strip at Island Dragway in the US state of New Jersey set the stage for an epic muscle car drag race between the 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray and the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.

They are two of America’s freshest muscle cars.

On one side – a hybrid monster.

On the other – a naturally aspirated Gen-4 5.0L 500-hp Coyote V8.

But who would emerge victorious?

Chevy Corvette E-Ray vs Ford Mustang Dark Horse

The Chevy boasts 655 horsepower flexing within a sleek blue coat accented by red-and-black racing stripes.

It recently broke boundaries as Chevy’s first hybrid all-wheel-drive Corvette.

The Dark Horse, on the other hand, is all ICE under its menacing gray hood.

You have to admit, they both look incredible.

The Ford is the American brand’s most track-focused Mustang yet.

However, those flashy specs mean nothing without performance in a drag race – and these two certainly delivered the goods.

This isn’t the first time a Chevy and Mustang have gone head-to-head.

The muscle car drag race

In the video – uploaded by ImportRace – the light turned green, and the Mustang Dark Horse got off the line faster thanks to a marginally quicker reaction time.

However, it was almost immediately apparent that the Corvette E-Ray had the upper hand.

The E-Ray’s all-wheel drive and electric motor-assisted launched it ahead of its competitor.

While both cars impressed as they roared down the quarter-mile strip, the scoreboard revealed the ultimate winner – 11.44 seconds for the E-Ray versus 13.99 seconds for the Dark Horse.

Disappointing for both the Dark Horse and Chevy, which both hit their supposed speed benchmarks.

However – the outcome felt like watching modern car evolution in action.

Proof – if it were needed – that going green doesn’t mean sacrificing speed, and when Chevy goes hybrid, it will take more than horsepower to keep up.
