This ’65 Mustang in California is not all it would appear to be

  • The Ford Mustang has long endured as, perhaps, the most iconic muscle car ever
  • First released in 1964, Ford’s marque is responsible for the “Pony Car” sector
  • A 1965 Mustang recently reared its head – but it’s not quite what you would expect

The Ford Mustang is one of the most recognisable names in car history.

Ford’s muscle car masterclass remains an enduring icon of the golden era of muscle cars.

As always, it tends to be pretty big news in the car world when one rears its head.

Except this example isn’t exactly what you would expect.

Ford’s marque: The king of kings

By now, you are probably well aware of how legendary the Ford Mustang name actually is.

The world-renowned marque has – in fact – been in continuous production since 1964.

This makes the muscle car Ford’s longest running vehicle – a seriously impressive achievement.

In particular, the first generation version has long endured as the preeminent muscle car.

Produced from 1964 to 1973, Ford’s flagship massively exceeded its own sales expectations.

In fact, the Mustang would become so popular that it would spawn the ‘pony car’, as well as its rivals.

Cars such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Barracuda all exist due to the Mustang.

In many ways, being responsible for your competition’s existence is the most impressive legacy of all.

1965 Mustang released… which actually isn’t one

Now, as we mentioned at the top, a 1965 Mustang has reared its head.

Of course, every time a first-generation muscle car pops up, it is always headline news.

However, this particular version is making waves for reasons that you might not expect.

A Californian custom shop called ‘customfncustoms‘ recently commissioned a one-of-a-kind Mustang.

They decided to take the chassis of a BMW E46 M3 and stick a 1965 Mustang body on it.

Oh, and this Frankenstein-like creation has a front end from a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

They brought their idea to a company called Abimelec Design to help bring the vision to life.

The design includes much more highly flared fenders for a more modern twist on the design.

Naturally, this kind of thing will be extremely divisive – people will either adore it or despite it.

Based on the renderings, we actually think they have done a pretty seamless job in crafting this car.
