This Porsche 356 from 1957 was found in barn in Pennsylvania by this car enthusiast – but once he got under the hood he found a bit more than he was expecting

The 356 needs a whole load of TLC thanks to it’s rusted state.

After making its way across the Atlantic, it was dismantled by it’s new owner.

But, he found something unexpected when the gearbox was removed.

Everyone loves a cheap motor find.

From barnyard finds to eBay and Marketplace bargains – some cars can be bought for only a few bucks to restore back to their former glory.

But sometimes hurdles can crop up along the way.

Take this Ford Galaxie Facebook Marketplace find for instance – which seemed too good to be true.

This flashy Porsche 911 was also bought for just $9,000 – but it soon became apparent why it was so cheap.

And, this barnyard spot, well, it was no different.

Dominic from the Dominic Chinea Youtube channel bought this 1957 Porsche 356.

He purchased it all the way from Pennsylvania where, back in the day, it used to take part in hill climb racing.

Dominic was keen to get stuck in and dismantled the car part by part.

The Porsche 356 is an OG in the auto world

Let’s face it – the poor Porsche was not looking its best, with rust adorning every surface.

However, The Porsche 356 is world-renowned for its engineering, so it was worth picking up in any state.

In fact, the 356 was the first car to display the name – the Type 356 No.1 to be exact, which burst onto the scene in 1948.

What was found when the 356 was taken apart?

You see, upon taking the gearbox out of the car – Dominic was blissfully unaware of what he was about to find.

“I don’t think this gearbox has been out either for a very long time or ever” said Dominic as he got stuck into dismantling the car.

He explained it was ‘caked in grease, covered in rust, everything’s seized up, but it’s out.’

But, as he removed the gearbox, something huge was discovered.

A big impact had creased the inner wing – according to the guys in the video.

One of them could see where it was buckled and said: “I know there’s rust but it’s actually under so much pressure.”

This certainly threw a spanner in the works.

But even after finding a potential issue, Dominic was still happy at the start on his restoration after removing the main foundations of the car to begin his journey

But will the damage discovered after removing the gearbox make the project an even harder graft?

You can watch all the drama unfold below.
