An American YouTuber has taken a borrowed GMC Hummer EV to a Tesla Supercharging point to see how it gets on.
Tesla Superchargers are some of the fastest charging points for EVs. However, they are optimized for Tesla’s vehicles.
But thanks to shared software and adapters, other vehicles can make use of them, which is why the YouTuber took the GMC EV to one.
He and his colleague wanted to see the Hummer’s charge speed, and they were quite surprised by the results.

The YouTubers are expecting half the normal speed
The YouTubers from The EV Geek channel are expecting the EV to charge roughly half the rate it usually does.
This is simply because it needs an adapter and is not optimized for the Tesla charging point.
The adapter converts NACS charging to CCS, the latter of which is what the Humvee has.
The adapter plugs in seamlessly, and the YouTubers begin charging the SUV up via an app.
After the SUV charges, the YouTubers go back inside the cabin to see the charge rate for it.
Once the rate had settled down, it sat at around the 150kw mark.
As standard, up to 300kw is available when it comes to charging a Hummer EV SUV.
So, achieving around half of that is good going, and the two YouTubers were very happy with that result.
The GMC Hummer EV is a polarizing vehicle
Even with the rise in popularity of EVs, the Hummer version has proven to be a divisive vehicle.
Much of that is down to its size.
The Hummer, both in pickup and SUV form, is a heavy beast and weighs between 8,500-9,000LBS.
Taking the maximum weight, that means the EV weighs at least 4.5 tons.

The price of the Hummer EV is also a big number.
The base version of the pickup model currently stands at $98,845, but it can rise to $106,945.
Those are the same prices for the SUV model, highlighting how expensive both versions of this Hummer are.
However, in terms of its charging capabilities, the Hummer EV appears quite versatile and openly happy on several charging networks.
So it’s got that going for it, at least.
