An EV owner has shown how she can charge her car in the ‘middle of nowhere’ – this time in Africa.

Her method involved using a standard power outlet and a domestic charger.

This method could solve travelers’ issues when passing through secluded places.

But how simple is the method to carry out yourself?

With EV chargers on the rise – charging them is vital to owners

We all know that more people are switching to buying electric vehicles, which means there’s an added need for charging methods.

So, for one solution, the state of California now has more EV charging stations than gas pumps.

Plus, China has made a new charging breakthrough that means EVs can be recharged as fast as filling up a gas car.

But for people elsewhere, fear not – this EV owner may have the solution for you.

She can charge her EV in the middle of nowhere

EV owner Lexie shared how she is able to charge her car without actually being close to an EV charger of any kind.

In a clip shared to Youtuber she showed her charging set-up.

Spoiler alert: it could make your EV life a whole lot easier

“I’m using a domestic charger, which basically means that I can plug my car into anywhere that has electricity,” she explained.

Even though Lexie explained that it is ‘about 20 times slower’ than a regular fast charger, after workshopping a lot of different solutions, it worked.

“This charger here is about 20 times slower than a regular fast charger that you would find for EVs but thankfully the locals are kind enough to let us charge here for quite some time, ” she continued.

How handy is that?

The solution to secluded road trips with a juiced-up battery could be all at the hands of a domestic charger and any form of power outlet.

How fast are Superchargers?

Most EV owners use Superchargers, which allow their cars to gain battery power in a short space of time.

Tesla itself states that they can provide ‘up to 172 miles of range in just 15 minutes’ – which is less time than it takes to wait in some fast-food lines.

Thanks to Lexie’s handy hack, whilst she’s travelling around the world in an EV, she can end up in quite places and still have a car full of beans, raring to go.

Will you give it a try?
