Qatar Airways debuts the world's first AI flight attendant

Qatar Airways has unveiled the world’s first holographic virtual AI flight attendant.

The airline launched the AI-powered digital flight attendant Sama 2.0, named after the Arabic word for ‘sky.’

Qatar Airways’ Sama 2.0 will answer real-time questions, and help passengers during their travel.

Imagine boarding a flight only to be greeted by a virtual AI flight attendant, not a real one.

The AI flight attendant will be on showcase at the Arabian Travel Market Dubai, from 6-9 May 2024.

Visitors can interact with the holographic AI at the Qatari Airways pavilion in Hall No.2.

So what can the Qatar Airways’ AI cabin crew do?

Equipped with a top-notch conversational AI, Sama 2.0 can interact with passengers in real-time.

She can also provide answers to queries ranging from FAQs to destination information.

The holographic AI flight attendant is also accessible through Qatar Airways’ immersive digital platform, QVerse, and their mobile app.

Of all the jobs we expected to be taken over by AI, a flight attendant was not anywhere near the top of the list.

Qatar Airways is calling it, ‘the first digital human in aviation.’

Just don’t ask it for water or a blanket.

Instead of taking over the cabin crew, the AI flight attendant will offer information to passengers and make their travel more convenient.

Qatar Airways is also using Sama to help passengers book flights and complete transactions.

So what does this mean for the future of travel?

It won’t change your flight experience that much, since the AI flight attendant will only be accessible through the Qverse, Qatar Airways’ metaverse app.

However, you can also ask her about on-ground and in-flight services services.

Like cabin preferences, meal options, and baggage allowances.
