Ford has revealed one of its most formidable track-ready cars yet, as the 2026 Shelby Super Snake-R has arrived with more HP than its donor Mustang GTD – and $100k shaved off its price.
Monterey Car Week 2025 has gotten off to an impressive start with new additions to the Lamborghini and Bugatti family.
But one of the biggest success stories of the week comes in the form of the Shelby Super Snake-R.
The latest Mustang has been allowed to bolt the gate, and it’s looking like one of the best fillys to leave the Shelby barn.

2026 Shelby Super Snake-R is everything the Dark Horse offers and more
As far as the Shelby Mustang series goes, so far, the Dark Horse is the pinnacle. It’s a fine-tuned, supercharged racing demon that has forgotten how to trot and can only gallop at breakneck speed.
But Ford has come out swinging in the last year, packing the GT350 with a bigger stable, and putting even more horsepower in the all-new Mustang GTD.
Now, the Dark Horse has been left as a shadow in the rearview mirror, as the 2026 Shelby Super Snake-R has been revealed.

Having been teased last week, the 2026 Shelby Super Snake-R has officially been unveiled at the Monterey Car Week showcase, and it’s one of the sportiest looks yet.
Getting the best bang for your buck
Boasting a colossal Gen 4 Ford Coyote 5.0-liter V8 and a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, the Super Snake-R promises to deliver over 850hp.
Becoming the third most-powerful car in the Shelby range, only behind the whopping 1000 S/C and the 2022 GT500KR, the Super Snake-R is one mean Mustang.
But it’s also dirt-cheap, for what you get.
Priced at $224,995, it undercuts the impressive Mustang GTD by $100,000, and there doesn’t seem to be much difference in its performance.

The main differences between the two latest Mustangs are road versus track optimization, with the Super Snake-R targeting success around the bends of a circuit, while the GTD boasts a better top speed for open roads.
