This town in Alaska celebrated the 4th of July in a unique way, by launching cars off cliffs instead of setting off fireworks.
The usual celebrations of Independence Day include gathering with friends and loved ones and setting fireworks off into the sky, but one town decided to do it differently.
The event happened at the Glacier View Fourth of July Car Launch as people came to celebrate Independence Day.
And, once word of the event spread, locals couldn’t believe it was happening so close to them

This town in Alaska celebrated 4th of July by launching cars off cliffs
It’s no secret that Independence Day in America is a big public holiday.
Every year, the 4th of July is marked in many different ways all across the country.
But, we bet you’ve never seen it celebrated in this way before.
Gearheads, listen up – we think you’ll like this one.
TikTokker raarupadventures shared how in Alaska, the usual celebration of launching fireworks into the air is replaced by a rather unusual act.
Instead, some people in the state celebrate by launching cars off cliffs for all to see.

“Each year on the 4th of July Glacier View hosts their annual Car Launch. People line up by 8:00 am to watch the afternoon festivities, and wow – is it entertaining,” the TikToker explained.
And this year, it was so popular that they had to sell tickets to limit the number of spectators.

Because the sunset in Alaska at this time of year is late, fireworks just don’t, well, work.
So locals have found a new way to celebrate the holiday in style instead, with the first one taking place in 2005 and still going strong 20 years later.
The act of launching cars for the 4th shocked locals online
You have to admit, it’s not the most usual of celebrations when it comes to the yearly 4th of July party time.
Locals were even shocked, and some simply couldn’t believe it.
“I’ve lived in Alaska my entire life and never seen this! Where is it done at I want to go next year,” said one local resident.
“Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t that,” joked another shocked user.
“Do they do this instead of fireworks because the sun sets so late?” asked one astute commenter.
Even though this celebration was certainly unique, it’s not the strangest thing to happen in the state.
In fact, one man tried to drive a mini truck over 1,000 miles to the most northern point in Alaska after he bought it without seeing it, online. Talk about taking a risk.
