Australian companies SwitchDin and EV-NRG have joined forces to roll out next-generation tech that could solve a major issue with EVs

The two companies have vowed to introduce what they believe to be ‘the fastest and most reliable charging solution’ in the country.

The new technology will allow fleet operators to charge their cars in just minutes.

Not only is the charging system faster, but it’s also designed for scalability, meaning it can be rolled out in a relatively short space of time.

Could this solve a major issue with EVs?

More and more business and governmental fleets are making the switch to EVs.

In Australia, the government has set a target for 75 percent of all new fleet purchases to be low-emission vehicles this year.

This is, of course, good news for the environment. But it can present a bit of a struggle in areas with poor charging infrastructure.

In a bid to solve a major issue with EVs, SwitchDin and EV-NRG are introducing a new charging system. And it could revolutionize charging in Australia.

The two companies have already delivered one of these ‘ultra-fast’ EV chargers to Viva Energy – one of the country’s biggest fuel suppliers.

Each of the charging units, known as ‘Blueberry Chargers’, has four charging points. Those points put out 500kW of power across the cluster.

This means each charging point can take an EV from 10 percent to 80 percent in under 20 minutes. And that could revolutionize charging times for EV fleets.

In a statement, EV-NRG Chief Sales Officer Chris Hewitt said:

“Together, SwitchDin and EV-NRG have developed the fastest and most reliable charging solution requiring minimal network connection upgrades to ensure fleets can make their transition to EVs quickly and safely.”

The next generation of EV chargers

Australia isn’t the only country working away on next-generation EV charging solutions.

Over in China, BYD has launched the game-changing Super e-Platform.

The super–fast charging platform, dubbed ‘the five-minute charger’, offers 1,000kW peak charging speeds, which is double Tesla’s 500kW Superchargers.

This means an EV can gain around 250 miles (400km) of range in just five minutes of charging.

That’s 1.2 miles (2km) per second of charge, or about as fast as filling up a gas tank.
