The Bombardier Global 8000 has just claimed the title of the fastest civil jet since Concorde, and it’s a pretty big deal.
Freshly type-certified by Transport Canada, the jet is now cleared for takeoff into full-scale production and global certification.
Bombardier says the milestone marks the start of a new chapter in business aviation.
For high-flying executives (literally), this is the closest thing to supersonic travel you can buy today.

The Global 8000 broke the sound barrier during testing
The Global 8000 didn’t appear out of thin air.
It’s the next evolution of Bombardier’s acclaimed Global 7500, a jet that’s been cruising the skies since 2018 and racking up over 250,000 flight hours.
While the 7500 already turned heads with its long range and plush cabin, Bombardier’s engineers clearly couldn’t resist asking, “What if we went faster?”
The result is a sleek, Mach 0.95 machine.

To put that in perspective, Mach 0.95 translates to roughly 1,155 km/h (717 mph).
That’s not quite supersonic, but it’s a gentle nudge away.
In test flights, the Global 8000 even managed to break the sound barrier, momentarily touching Mach 1.015 with a NASA F/A-18 chase plane confirming the feat.

Not bad for a business jet that also offers a maximum range of 8,000 nautical miles, enough to fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Dubai without needing to refuel.
It’s not just fast, it’s luxurious
But speed is only half the story.
Bombardier’s engineers have also managed to make the cabin environment one of the most comfortable in the sky.

At 41,000 feet, passengers experience a cabin altitude of just 2,691 feet, which the company playfully describes as ‘like standing on top of the Burj Khalifa.’
With Transport Canada’s stamp of approval now secured, Bombardier is gearing up for FAA and EASA certification next.
Once cleared, the Global 8000 will officially take the crown as the world’s fastest, longest-range business jet.
It’s almost like Concorde was reborn for the modern age, minus the sonic boom.
