This BYD owner had gotten rid of his car after it emergency-braked on a highway, and BYD had the perfect response.
Izwan Hassan went viral after his BYD Atto 3 EV SUV unexpectedly braked on a Malaysian highway back in May.
Now, he has confirmed that he will be parting ways with his car.
Fortunately, BYD handled the situation perfectly.

What happened after this BYD emergency-braked on a highway
This story began back in May when Izwan Hassan was driving with his family from Melaka to Penang along the Cheras-Kajang Expressway in Indonesia.
Suddenly, the car came to an abrupt stop in the fast lane, having been traveling at a speed between 90 and 100 kilometres per hour.
Fortunately, nobody was hurt – but the incident understandably caused a lot of confusion.

It was initially thought to be caused by a faulty 12V battery, but BYD later told Izwan that a defective driver-side door sensor was to blame.
When the sensors failed, the car’s safety system was automatically triggered – hazard lights came on, brakes were activated, and the car emergency-braked as a result.
All in all, the car came to a complete stop in under seven seconds.
“It all happened too fast. We didn’t have time to react. The safety system is supposed to protect passengers – but in this case, it posed a danger,” Izwan said.

Fortunately, BYD resolved the situation through a full loan settlement.
“We appreciate the professional conduct shown by BYD Sime Motors in resolving this matter amicably by repurchasing the vehicle through a full settlement with the bank,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
“Although I did suffer a slight financial loss from the instalments paid, I am not willing to risk a repeat of the incident. My family’s safety is paramount.”

This Chinese manufacturer is on the rise
Everywhere you look, it seems like BYD is ascending in the world of EVs.
As the company rolls out lightning-fast charging in Europe, many are saying that Tesla is struggling to keep up.

BYD has taken full advantage of the rise in popularity of EVs and rocketed to dazzling success since 2020.
So much so that it has usurped Tesla in the UK earlier this month, shortly after dominating the entirety of the European market in a ‘watershed moment’.
