Half the price, five times more lifespan, leading energy density, and extreme weather protection. That’s the promise, as CATL unveils a new sodium-ion EV battery that is set to rewrite the entire industry.
Batteries are the beating heart of the EV industry.
With that understanding, companies have been jostling to improve the technology and make our cars more efficient than ever before.
Now, Chinese wizards at CATL have revealed a new sodium-ion EV battery that could last ‘decades’.

New sodium-ion EV battery promises decades of power
CATL is a leading battery provider from China, having powered EVs for years.
Recently, EV drivers went crazy for the Huawei Aito M8, powered by the new 800-volt architecture provided by CATL.
And the major pull is that these batteries can even be swapped out at gas stations for other fully-charged power units, eliminating the charging process entirely.
But its latest product, Naxtra, has just completed its final wave of fire regulation checks needed to launch throughout Asia and Europe.

Highlighted by The Electric Viking on YouTube, these batteries have passed the regulations with flying colors, which means they will be allowed to be shipped into cars and will not combust under pressure.
The excitement is heightened as experts claim that the new sodium-ion EV battery will last around 3,600,000 miles, and can be recycled for household usage if you move on from your car.
Knowing that the battery packs can even be swapped in three minutes flat at stations throughout China, there’s hope that these wild, long-lasting power banks could be the norm across the globe in the coming years.
A new era of battery tech is dawning
CATL isn’t the only company flying when it comes to advancing battery tech.
Although they are doing extremely well.
Still, there’s a range of new products in the pipeline that could rival the new sodium-ion EV battery.

Staying in China, there’s a new lithium battery promising 660 watt-hours per kilogram of energy density, which will see driving ranges ease past the 400-mile mark.
And self-charging batteries could soon arrive.
Charging anxiety is finally being eased, thanks to these innovative pieces of kit.
