One of Chevrolet’s best-selling pickups might, in fact, be a Chinese vehicle in disguise.
From the Chevy Corvette to Chevy pickup trucks, the carmaker offers a variety of vehicles that most other brands simply can’t match.
The S10 Max, one of the best-selling vehicles outside of the US, is manufactured in a more cost-efficient way than others in the Chevy fleet.
But it turns out there might be a hidden story behind the popular Chevrolet truck.

The hidden story behind the Chinese built Chevrolet S10 Max
Chevrolet is thought to be a quintessentially American brand, but this S10 Max that is offered in different global markets is actually a Chinese-built vehicle.
Vehicle standards and regulations are strict in the US and in other countries such as Brazil and Mexico.
Therefore, there are different regulations in different countries.

According to GM Authority, the 2023 Chevrolet S10 Max was actually based on elements of the Maxus T70 from SAIC Motors.
Thanks to Chevy’s alliance with SAIC Motors, we now have the first Chinese-made pickup truck to be sold as a Chevrolet.

It is important to note that the S10 Max is reportedly not related to the S10 made in Brazil, with other reports also stating that industry launch documentation clearly shows that the S10 Max originates in China, too.
But what does this really mean?
Well, thanks to different safety standards and rules in countries like Mexico, production can take place at a reduced price, meaning that the truck can be sold for a cheaper price.
What you’ll find in the S10 Max
According to Chevrolet Mexico, there are four options to choose from.
These consist of: a Chassis Cab, Regular Cabin, Double Cabin, Double Cab Turbo manual, and Double Cab Turbo 4×4 Automatic.
The 2025 versions offer a 2.4L 4-cylinder gasoline engine with multi-point fuel injection that is able to produce 41 HP and a torque level of 148 lb-ft.

There are other options to choose from too, such as a two-liter Turbo four-cylinder direct injection gasoline engine.
So, there you have it.
Mexico’s need for a cheaper, but still equally reliable truck was answered by the S10 Max.
