The fastest-growing worldwide EV company has announced that its next-gen model, the BYD Sealion 7, is a direct competitor with the Tesla Model 3 at a significantly lower price.

For years, Tesla has ruled the EV world – but that could all be set to change.

Having lost ground to Chinese companies throughout the rest of the world, things are certainly looking different these days for the innovative American stalwarts.

Now, the trusted Tesla Model 3 is under pressure from BYD again as the Sealion is being marketed at half the price.

The behemoth Chinese EV company BYD is on the move.

Having been in the car industry for over 20 years, the electric vehicle pioneers have taken the EV industry by storm, usurping the thought-to-be insurmountable Tesla in the UK and Europe in 2025.

This upwards trajectory only seems to be continuing, as BYD announced the rollout of its game-changing ‘flash chargers’ that really put Tesla to shame.

Now, the Chinese company is conquering the EV world again with its latest blockbuster car: the Sealion 7.

Priced at half of a Tesla Model 3, the BYD Sealion 7 is being readied as the most affordable mid-size sedan in the electric market.

But if you might have thought that the lower price tag meant lower quality, you’d be wrong.

The Sealion 7 is 23hp more powerful than the Tesla Model 3 (530hp vs 507hp, respectively), and hits 0-60mph marginally quicker.

Inside, the EV tech is inseparable, and the layout can only be judged by preference.

Tesla Model 3 sticks with the singular central screen, while the Chinese alternative pairs its infotainment system with a digital dash, taking away some HUD clutter but driving the details to two separate places.

There’s really not much between the two cars.

Aside from a gigantic chasm in price.

Brand new, the cheapest BYD Sealion 7 spec is priced at $14,400.

An off-the-lot Tesla Model 3 is three times the price at $42,000.

It’s not the cheapest BYD on the market in Europe, as that accolade goes to the hatchback Seagull, but for just $4k more, the Sealion has much more to offer.

While China has yet to penetrate the American market, maybe due to the two leadership figures’ friendship and POTUS’ huge tariffs against the Asian tech moguls, the time for BYD’s incursion could be nearing.

Almost all American auto execs reportedly think that the Chinese cars are coming soon, and Tesla will feel the full force.
