This DIY camper project turned a basic custom trailer into a fully built teardrop camper in just three weeks.

The entire camper build was done at home using standard tools and lightweight materials.

The final result included everything needed for a road trip, from power and lighting to cooking space and storage.

The result? Compact, easy to tow, and built to last.

How this DIY camper came together in just three weeks

Xyla Foxlin began the camper build with a flat trailer kit designed for small projects.

She added a wooden floor, foam insulation, and lightweight framing to create the shape of the camper.

Using a digital plan, she was able to cut the curved side panels and roof pieces more easily and keep everything consistent.

The outer shell was made from bendable plywood, then sealed and covered with thin aluminum to protect it from rain and wear.

Inside, Foxlin built storage cabinets, a sleeping area, and soft lighting to make the space feel like a compact home.

Above the bed, she added a large clear panel to act as a skylight for nighttime views.

At the back of the camper, a large hatch opens to reveal a full kitchenette.

It includes shelves, counter space, and access to power.

A solar panel also sits on the roof and connects to a battery system stored at the front of the trailer.

The electrical wiring is tucked between the inner and outer walls to keep the interior clean and organized.

Foxlin also made the doors and windows by hand, carefully shaping them to fit the curved structure.

Every detail, from the cabinet handles to the wood trim, was finished to match the overall look.

The entire teardrop camper is light enough to tow with a small car, but strong enough to handle long trips on the road.

DIY trailer is insulated, waterproof and wired for power

This custom trailer project shows what can be done with simple materials, basic tools, and a clear plan.

While Foxlin used design software to map things out, most of the work was done in her backyard workshop using tools anyone could learn to use.

The teardrop camper includes the same features you’d expect from a store-bought model.

It’s insulated, waterproof, and wired for power.

There is space to sleep, cook, and relax, with thoughtful touches throughout the interior.

By the end of the three weeks, a bare metal trailer had become a finished DIY camper, ready to hit the road.
