After finally taking delivery of the famous $38,000,000 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Bianco Speciale, Californian businessman David Lee has been praised for the first thing he did with it.

Spotting supercars on the road is a hard feat.

Not just because they are already limited in numbers, but because a lot of owners are obsessed with keeping them under wraps and preserving the body.

But despite paying one of the biggest fees of all time for a car, this wasn’t going to stop David Lee from showcasing his Ferrari 250 GTO.

The story behind the famous $38M Ferrari 250 GTO

The Ferrari 250 GTO is one of the most extraordinary supercars ever made, but only one of them was created with a signature ‘Bianco Speciale’ white paint job, and it’s been renowned as one of the rarest cars in the world.

But it’s also not just a showpiece.

Owned by racing icons John Coombs and Jack Sears in the 70s, it was later ripped around Goodwood by F1 legend Graham Hill, and has been active at shows throughout its lifetime.

Last year, it turned up on the auction block, and given its rarity, it was expected to be one of the biggest sales ever.

Lo and behold, David Lee, an already massive Ferrari enthusiast and collector, paid $38,000,000 to add it to his garage.

Lee, CEO of one of the largest luxury watch retailers in the US, Hing Wa Lee Group, revealed that he couldn’t be trusted to attend the auction and had to send a broker on his behalf, as he might have gotten too carried away with the bidding.

Still, he landed it, saying: “I believe in destiny, and this car was for me.”

Although it now joins one of the most prestigious Ferrari collections on Earth, Lee isn’t just wrapping it up.

New $38M Ferrari owner heaped with praise after taking it out for a spin

In an upload to his YouTube channel, David Lee wasted no time getting behind the wheel of the car and giving it a real blast.

Instead of just dawdling down the road, Lee put his foot to the floor and let the engine sing its sweet melody.

Instantly, fans applauded the efforts and claimed it went to the ‘right owner’.

“The fact that he went out and immediately ripped it on public roads just shows it went to the right guy,” one person wrote.

A second comment agreed, adding, “Probably the only person that would buy this car and immediately drive it on a public road. Thank you, Mr. Lee.”

A third person said, “Glad it went to a collection where the owner is not afraid of taking his cars out rather than a basement collection where we only see/hear about it when it’s at another auction going to a new home.”

It’s clear to see that David Lee isn’t afraid of putting miles on the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Bianco Speciale, and we can likely expect it to continue making appearances on the road.
