BMW iX3 makes history as it hits 100,000 orders in a year and its factory is running non-stop to try and keep up

The electric BMW iX3 is doing better than expected, and the manufacturer actually can’t keep up with demand.

When it was unveiled, not long ago, the initial reaction was positive.

But no one could’ve predicted the numbers we’re seeing.

There’s one in particular that’s making headlines, probably because it’s a new record for BMW.

BMW has already set a record with the iX3

Within its first year on the market, the iX3 reached 100,000 orders in Europe alone, making it the most successful first-year model launch in the company’s history.

But that’s not the record we were talking about.

It gets better.

To keep pace with demand, the company added a third shift to its manufacturing facility in Debrecen, Hungary – the only plant that’s currently building the model – which essentially means that production is now 24/7.

So far, the plant has already produced around 50,000 units in a little over seven months, marking the fastest production ramp-up in the company’s history.

The BMW iX3 is no slouch and it comes with fast-charging

In the US, the flagship model is iX3 50 xDrive, starting at $61,500.

This offers a dual-motor setup with 463 horsepower, a 0-60 time of 4.7 seconds, and 383 miles of range.

Even though we should also point out that the most efficient model can do up to 600+ miles on a charge.

Also, it’s compatible with 400-kW fast-charging, which translates to 10-80 percent in 21 minutes.

Speaking of which, the German manufacturer intends to expand production in Mexico and also in China, with a long-wheelbase version.

There’s another ‘record’

In general, European brands have been struggling to make compelling electric cars.

Most were duds, with constant redesigns and overhauls and rebrands.

But if you’re constantly rebranding and redesigning, it means you keep getting it wrong.

BMW is an exception.

Compared to other legacy brands, the German automaker has been doing much better in the EV sector.

Which is why there’s another element of the iX3 that needs to be address: it accounts for one in three fully electric BMWs ordered across Europe.

Not exactly a record, and it is also very region-specific, but it tells you people really like this car.
