Americans can buy 10 of these Ferraris for the price of one F40, so why don't you?

  • The Ferrari F40 is worth at least two million dollars in today’s market
  • In theory, you could buy 10 or 20 Ferraris for the price of one F40
  • But there’s a good reason people don’t

In the United States, you can buy about 10 new Ferraris for the price of one Ferrari F40.

In the current market, you need between $2 million and $3 million to buy one, and that’s in the best-case scenario.

For that money, you can buy a long list of new Ferraris, many times over.

But, for a very good reason, people simply don’t that.

It’s difficult to determine the exact market value of a Ferrari F40, but on average, most examples available today are priced between $2 million and $3 million.

In the United States, the least expensive new Ferrari you can buy is the Portofino, which starts at around $250,000, followed by the Roma, priced at $275,000.

Interestingly, you’ll find the exact reverse situation in other markets where the Roma, not the Portofino, is the cheapest available.

But that’s beside the point because it means that either way, you could buy nine or 10 new Portofinos or new Romas for the price of one F40.

A similar case could be made for classic Ferraris, too.

A few weeks ago, a Ferrari F430 sold for $125,000 on SBX Cars, so you could theoretically buy over 20 of those instead.

So the question is, why doesn’t that happen?

The market always wants what it wants, and when it comes to Ferrari, the F40 is one of the most coveted models.

Buying another Ferrari instead of the F40 isn’t good enough for some collectors in the same way that going to your local beach isn’t a substitute for a holiday in Barbados.

There are are several reasons why this particular model is so popular.

Rarity is certainly a factor, but the main thing that sets the F40 apart from other Ferraris is that a lot of people see that as the last purely mechanical and truly analog Ferrari supercar.

Everything that followed, including the F50 10 years later, was a bit ‘too modern’ for some collectors.

Of course, most people who have the means to buy the F40 don’t have to make that distinction.

A collector in the United States, for example, owns a Ferrari 288 GTO, an F40, an F50, a LaFerrari, and the Enzo.

And superstar boxer Canelo Alvarez has now added three separate Ferraris to his impressive collection.

The Ferrari F40 is an expensive car, but its value will still probably continue to go up.

Only 1,311 were built, but the number of millionaires and billionaires is going up year on year.

So those in the market for an F40 have two options.

They can either swallow the bitter pill and just pay up, or they wait for a potential successor which, apparently, Lewis Hamilton is trying to convince Ferrari to build.
