This Florida service technician has revealed why he refused to unlock a Chevrolet Camaro’s door despite being called out by the AAA.

Ray Brito, the owner of Mobile Battery & Tire in Jacksonville, Florida, shared his predicament on TikTok.

Before he headed out to the job, he asked for pictures and videos of the Chevrolet in question.

Unfortunately, this is when things took a turn for the worse.

Why this Florida service technician refused the job

Ray Brito explained that he was contacted by the AAA to head out to help a driver who was locked out of their Chevrolet Camaro.

But once Brito watched a video of the car, he turned down the job, deciding it wasn’t ‘worth the risk’.

But what exactly was so risky?

He took to TikTok to explain the dilemma.

“After seeing the damage on the door and the fact that they had already taken the taillight out and stuff, I didn’t want to mess with it,” Brito said.

“Someone else had already damaged his car, so I didn’t want to get involved with that.”

It was clear that somebody had already done some damage to the vehicle in an attempt to gain access to it.

And while he could appreciate the person likely did this in panic, it posed a big risk because there’s a chance he could be blamed.

“If you had gone out there, then it’s not clear who had done what in terms of the damage,” he later said in an interview with Motor1.

“They can try to blame it on me, and it’s better to just not be involved in a situation like that.”

This isn’t the first time he’s turned down a job that carried this kind of risk.

Previously, he had to help change the flat tire of a woman who had damaged her car by backing into her carport structure.

In that case, he took pictures of the damage, sent them to the dispatcher, and went on his way.

Obviously, these decisions aren’t taken lightly – turning down a job can frustrate customers, as you could imagine, not to mention the money lost.

But if the call comes in via the AAA or an insurance dispatch, he said it was easier to turn down without having to go into too much detail.

Getting locked out of your car – a problem that’s more common than you might think

AAA Insurance reportedly assists around four million people a year with getting locked out of their car- and we can imagine the figure is higher than that when taking other providers into account.

AAA’s own lockout policy is for its technicians to attempt to enter the vehicle, and then to resort to towing the vehicle or calling in a locksmith if unsuccessful.

There’s nothing worse than being locked out of your car.

In the carpark of one British grocery store, everyone got to experience this at once when all their key fobs malfunctioned.

And EVs aren’t exempt from this problem either, as Mario Zelaya found out when he was locked out of his Tesla Model S due to a dead battery.
