Michael Jordan, Rory McIlroy, and other high-flying athletes know a lot about luxury travel, and the Gulfstream G650ER jet is their ride of choice.

Owning a private jet is already an indulgence that only the ultra-wealthy can dream of, but this particular model goes even further.

It’s fast, it’s powerful, and it’s decked out with all the comforts you could ever want at 51,000 feet.

In short, the G650ER is like a five-star hotel that also happens to outrun most aircraft in the sky.

The G650ER is faster than most commercial jets

First introduced in 2014, the G650ER quickly built a reputation as the gold standard of private aviation.

The jet is capable of cruising at Mach 0.90, with a maximum speed of Mach 0.925.

In fact, it’s one of the fastest business jets in the world, at least until supersonic jets return.

Its 7,500-nautical-mile range means you can jet off from Singapore to San Francisco in just 13 hours and 37 minutes, shaving well over an hour off a commercial flight.

No wonder the model has racked up more than 90 speed records, including a world-circling trip in record time back in 2019.

The secret to its performance lies in its twin Rolls-Royce BR725 A1-12 engines, which generate 75.20 kilonewtons of thrust at takeoff.

That power allows the jet to launch weighing over 100,000 pounds and still climb to its lofty 51,000-foot ceiling.

For passengers, this translates to faster trips, smoother cruising above the weather, and bragging rights that their ride is faster than most of the competition.

Famous owners include Michael Jordan and Rory McIlroy

Of course, speed isn’t the only selling point.

Inside, the G650ER is designed for both work and relaxation.

The cabin is big enough to walk around comfortably, at 6 feet 3 inches high and 8 feet 2 inches wide.

It can also be customized to suit an owner’s exact tastes.

Think plush leather chairs that face each other for conversations, dining tables that morph into meeting spaces, and couches that convert into beds for long-haul naps.

Even the crew gets their own dedicated rest areas, ensuring everyone onboard arrives refreshed.

With a new G650ER costing up to $78 million, this isn’t an impulse buy.

Yet for athletes like Michael Jordan and Rory McIlroy, the price tag is worth it for the speed, range, privacy, convenience and luxury.
