This guy in Kentucky hasn’t bought gas in over five years after buying a Tesla Model 3.

He bought his car in 2018 and drove it for nearly 136,000 miles, saving a lot of cash on maintenance and fuel.

The Kentuckian says he actually drives more than the average American motorist so, in his case, the savings are even more impressive.

And there’s something else he thinks is great about owning an EV.

How much this guy saved on gas costs thanks to his Tesla Model 3

Andy Slye, a YouTuber from Kentucky, explained how he bought a brand-new Tesla Model 3 in 2018 and never looked back.

So far, he spent around $4,500 on ‘fuel’ in total. Which is especially noteworthy when you consider an equivalent Toyota Camry would’ve cost him around three times as much.

More to the point, Slye said that there’s another huge misconception when it comes to EVs. And it’s about the battery.

Some believe owning an EV means you have to replace the battery after a certain number of years/miles. But that’s not the case.

He said the battery in his Model 3 still retains 95 percent health, despite the fact that it’s already provided energy to cover 136,000 miles.

At this rate, by his calculation, he’ll have saved around $22,000 in gas costs by the time his car turns 10.

It’s daily driving and recharging a Tesla that will save you the most money.

Are EVs cheaper than gas cars?

The biggest question is whether an EV is more economically viable than a gas car. There are a few ‘ifs’, but the short answer is: ‘Usually, yes’.

Several Tesla owners took to social media to share their experience with EVs in different regions, from Cybertruck owners in the US to Model 3 owners in the UK.

In general, there are significant savings to be had when it comes to owning a Tesla. Which makes it potentially much cheaper than an ICE, or internal combustion engine.

There are always exceptions that confirm the rule, though.

A while back, an early Cybertruck buyer shared how much he had to pay to charge his truck. Let’s just say the result was far from impressive.
