When a YouTuber picked up the cheapest Tesla Model 3 he could find, he didn’t expect the solution to its problem to be such a cheap fix.
Instead of running into the nightmare repair bills many people fear with used electric cars, the solution ended up being almost laughably easy.
The bargain EV was picked up for just $14,300, a price that would make many Tesla fans do a double take.
Even better, the fix required nothing more than a quick install using an inexpensive part from Amazon.

The Model 3 had a healthy battery despite its mileage
The story came from YouTuber HP Medina, who added the car to his growing fleet of rental vehicles.
The purchase was particularly interesting because he had previously owned a Tesla Model 3 Performance, but had since sold it and decided to try a more basic version instead.
This time around, the team bought a 2021 standard-range Tesla Model 3 finished in black.

The car had already racked up 107,000 miles, which would normally scare off many used car buyers, especially those worried about EV battery degradation.
However, Medina quickly checked the battery health through the vehicle’s diagnostics and was pleasantly surprised to see everything showing green.
Real-world data has shown that most EV batteries tend to outlast the cars they’re in, so this became another example why would-be EV owners need not be worried.
In fact, the car appeared to be in remarkably good condition for the price.

Aside from some curb rash on the wheels, minor scratches, and a very dirty exterior, there were no major signs of damage.
Even the interior held up well, with the car’s vegan leather seats showing little wear and no major tears.

Still, a few small issues needed attention before the Tesla could join Medina’s rental fleet.
Two tires needed replacing, and the wheels required a quick alignment.
Fortunately, the standard Model 3 uses 18-inch wheels, meaning replacement tires were far cheaper than those on the Performance version.
The most noticeable problem, however, was a damaged driver-side mirror housing.

The underside panel was missing, leaving exposed wiring hanging down.
At first glance, it looked like something that might require a costly repair at a Tesla service center.
Instead, the solution turned out to be incredibly simple.
A replacement cover was found on Amazon for about $27, and installing it took only a few seconds.

With a quick snap into place, the dangling wires were hidden and the mirror looked good as new.
Another cosmetic issue involved a peeling interior door trim piece.

A replacement panel costing roughly $30 solved that problem as well, though the installation process ended up being a bit messier thanks to some stubborn glue.
After a thorough wash and some professional-looking photos, the once-neglected Tesla was ready to be listed as a rental vehicle.

Medina planned to let renters unlock and drive the car using their phones, taking advantage of Tesla’s phone-as-key technology instead of traditional keys.

Considering the extremely low purchase price and minimal repair costs, the bargain Tesla Model 3 could end up being one of the most profitable cars in the fleet.
