If you have ever wished for a pickup truck that is tiny enough to squeeze into tight city parking spots, the new TELO MT1 EV might be your dream ride.

A video from the Fast Lane Truck showcased the all-electric vehicle, featuring TELO CEO Jason Marks.

While the mini-truck concept is not new in countries like Japan and China, it has yet to pick up steam in the US.

However, Marks appears confident that the TELO MT1 can break into the American market, citing demand from urban residents for a small truck.

The EV truck is wider than you’d think

While the TELO MT1 is described as a mini-truck, it is surprisingly wide, measuring 73 inches, which makes it closer to a Tesla Cybertruck than a traditional Japanese kei truck.

Marks joked that the vehicle possesses ‘big-truck energy’, despite only having the footprint of a two-door Mini Cooper.

It can fit five people while boasting a 5ft bed capacity, with a configurable mid-partition that can either allow the truck to fit 4ft by 8ft plywood sheets, or allow for additional seating for up to eight passengers. Impressive, right?

Nathan Adlen, from the Fast Lane Truck YouTube channel, put this to the test when the self-described ‘chunky monkey’ got into the vehicle, and found that it was surprisingly spacious.

The TELO MT1 has a payload capacity of 1,700lbs (770kg), with a towing capacity of 6,600lbs (2,993kg).

However, Marks admitted that these specifications are not necessarily feasible for long-haul towing.

“Like any other EV, you have to take the towing capacity with a grain of salt. We don’t expect anybody to buy this vehicle and go long-haul towing on this thing,” said Marks.

According to him, the TELO MT1’s main towing application is for tasks like taking boats out of the water, or hauling large objects to the landfill, which are usually achieved under 50 miles.

The all-electric vehicle is set to retail at $41,500

The TELO MT1 offers up to a 350 mile (560km) range with its 106 kWh battery, and supports fast charging, being able to charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in about 20 minutes.

The first batch of the TELO MT1 is expected to be delivered in 2026, and the base model, which comes with a 260-mile (418km) range, is set to retail at $41,500.

With the vehicle pricing at almost half of the Tesla Cybertruck, perhaps it can punch above its weight and woo truck lovers on a budget.

It’s already attracting interest in the US.

Just last month, TELO revealed that it had already secured more than 5,000 preorders for the MT1.
