Mercedes-AMG wants to differentiate itself from regular Mercedes and is doing so by setting a ‘Batman test’ for all of its future cars.

Apparently, AMG buyers aren’t looking for a ‘nice’ Mercedes; they want something aggressive, full of character, and packed with performance and attitude.

As AMG Executive Michael Schiebe put it, ‘we are Batman, we are not Superman…Batman is the one who is too dangerous for your daughter’.

And to ensure that, each car will be put through the new test. So, what exactly does that involve?

There’s a whole flood of supercars coming to the market

There are a flood of Mercedes-AMGs on the way; in fact, AMG has never launched so many models before.

Even though AMG isn’t ignoring releasing high-powered EVs, there’s a whole new family of V8-engine-powered beasts on the way, all designed to meet global emissions rules.

The luxury automaker has declared a seriously ambitious sales target: 200,000 AMGs per year, so to hit that, every model must compete at the top of its class.

In order to reach the top of its class, Mercedes-AMG has an interesting test to make sure that all of its AMGs show how different and dangerous they are compared to regular Mercedes.

What is the Mercedes-AMG ‘Batman test’?

As AMG Executive Michael Schiebe said on AMGs, “We are Batman, we are not Superman…Batman is the one who is too dangerous for your daughter.”

AMGs need to come across as different from regular Mercedes.

All of the design team uses Gotham’s dark superhero, Batman, as a basis for their designs and every supercar that they develop has to pass one short test.

Whenever they develop a new Mercedes-AMG, the team has to look at every inch of it and ask: “Is this Batman enough?”

So, if you do end up buying an AMG, remember that the standard is sky high.
