The Tesla Cybertruck, Ford Lightning, and GMC Sierra EV may all be electric trucks, but they represent wildly different visions of the future.
Nearly two years after the first Cybertrucks hit the road, the stainless-steel wedge still slices opinion in half.
Some see it as progress, others as an alien invader parked in the driveway.
Yet for one Missouri man, the decision came down to more than looks or specs, as he compared it to choosing an iPhone over a BlackBerry.

Cool and Ugly: The Tesla Cybertruck paradox
Andres Acosta, a member of the St. Louis Tesla Enthusiasts group on Facebook, recently explained why he ditched more traditional options like the Ford Lightning or GMC Sierra EV.
He freely admits those trucks nail plenty of ‘traditional truck stuff’ better than the Cybertruck, like tailgates, midgates, and bigger frunks.
But for him, the deciding factor wasn’t hardware. It was software.
“The ecosystem on a Tesla is like no other,” Acosta wrote, “It’s like going from an iPhone or Android back to a BlackBerry or Sidekick.”
In other words, once you’ve tasted Tesla’s blend of Full Self-Driving, over-the-air updates, and the unrivaled Supercharger network, going back to the old way feels… primitive.
He even acknowledged the Cybertruck’s looks are both ‘cool and ugly,’ a paradox that has defined the truck since its reveal.

The Ford Lightning is a much more familiar choice
For long-time truck owners, the Ford Lightning or GMC Sierra EV can be compared to comfort food; after all, these trucks looks almost identical to their gas-powered siblings, but with new electric guts.
In fact, this man switched from a gas truck to a Ford F-150 Lightning, and felt pretty good about it.
On the other hand, the Cybertruck is something else entirely: angular, uncompromising, and impossible to ignore.
And for some people, that’s exactly what they want in their vehicles.
Just look at this Arizona man, who tried the Tesla Cybertruck for 48 hours, and was left so impressed that he wants to switch vehicles, despite years of driving a Ford F-150.
At the end of the day, it’s all up to your individual preferences.

Some may prefer something more familiar, while others relish the opportunity to drive something outlandish.
However, there might still be one major factor for aspiring truck owners to consider.
This finance expert recently explained the ‘real reason’ why Tesla Cybertrucks aren’t selling compared to the Ford F-150 Lightning, and it was quite insightful.
