This is the new Ferrari 849 Testarossa, the long-awaited successor for the Ferrari SF90.

It uses the same engine but it’s more powerful.

More importantly, it looks even more aggressive.

And it bears the most important name in Ferrari’s history.

The new Ferrari improves on the SF90

The prototype for the new Ferrari 849 Testarossa was known internally as Ferrari F173M, which was a name that gave away some of the things we can now see in the production version.

However, at the same time, it was also a bit misleading because Ferrari opted for a name that’s really, really important and meaningful: Testarossa, which you can tell by looking at the obvious nods to the original Testarossa at the front and rear.

At the same time, Type F173 was the name that Ferrari used for the SF90, and M stands for Modificata (modified), which explains why this is more of an improvement on the SF90 rather than an entirely new car.

The new 849 Testarossa incorporates design cues from both the 296 GTB and the SF 90 XX Stradale, which is also part of the XX Programme.

Prototype mules have been spotted testing since mid-2023, but the actual finished product looks even more spectacular.

At the front, we’ve got a new air intake, a more pronounced splitter and new vertical headlights.

At the back, there’s a new full-width LED taillight, a new diffuser and quad exhausts.

As for the interior, the new Ferrari 849 Testarossa carries over some elements from the Ferrari SF90, including of course all digital displays (with revised tech) and Alcantara/carbon trim.

The engine is based on the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 used in the SF90, paired with three electric motors, but it now delivers 1,036BHP, sent to all four wheels, even though the all-wheel drive system is definitely rear-biased.

The top speed is 330KPH (205MPH), while 0-62MPH is dealt with in 2.25 seconds.

The second model in a magic trio

If everything goes to plan, the new 849 Testarossa will have been the second of at least three new Ferraris unveiled this year.

The first one was the new Amalfi, which replaced the Roma, and the third one will be (if confirmed) the ultra-hyped Ferrari EV.

Ferrari is currently busy scaling up, so a fourth model is also expected, possibly a revised and improved track-focused version of the 296.

So stay tuned for that.
