A New York man who owns two Teslas has shared the numbers after people claimed his electricity bill must have skyrocketed.

The Tesla owner says he constantly hears the same assumption: that charging an EV at home sends your power bill through the roof.

Instead, he claimed that the real-world costs were far lower than people expect.

He shared his charging costs across a year and highlighted one detail that matters.

New York man shares the numbers

If you have ever mentioned owning a Tesla EV online, you have probably seen the comment coming from a mile away.

According to this New York owner, one of the most common messages he gets is some variation of: your electricity bill must be insane with two Teslas.

He says it is not.

To back it up, he shared his charging spend across all of 2022 and stressed one detail that matters for the math.

He owned two Tesla’s during the year, not just one and even with that added usage, he claims he spent $782 on electricity total.

That figure includes more than just plugging in at home, too, he said part of the total came from Supercharging on road trips, which is typically pricier than home charging.

In other words, his total was not a best-case scenario built entirely on cheap overnight rates in the garage.

Two Teslas and an electricity bill that did not skyrocket

The headline number is what makes his point stick: two Tesla’s, one year, and under $800 in electricity.

From there, he took it a step further and compared that spend to what he believes he would have paid in gas over the same period.

He claimed that he saved over $2,000 in 2022 alone by driving Tesla.

It is a simple message aimed at anyone on the fence – the electric bill did not skyrocket, and the charging costs were manageable.

Even when he stacked those numbers against fuel, he says the difference was enough to feel like an easy win.

If nothing else, it is a reminder that the real cost of EV ownership often looks very different once you actually run the numbers.
