This Ferrari battle was a test of the brand’s engine power, and there was one clear winner thanks to some clever crafting of cylinders.
The 488 Pista Spider was put up against the 296 GTB in the ultimate V8 versus V6 test.
From a drag race to acceleration runs, the cars were in the ultimate battle of speed.
But there could only be one winner, and the numbers simply do not lie.

It was V8 versus V6 in a battle of Ferrari engineering
When it comes to speed, Ferrari knows its stuff.
From the Purosangue to the Daytona, the cars are known to breeze down a street with ease.
With a new release changing things up with the engine, two gearheads decided to put a V8 and a V6 car up against each other in the ultimate test.
The guys over on the CarExpert YouTube channel put the Ferraris against each other in a variety of test runs, including a quarter-mile drag race, a time run, and a subsequent rolling race.

The 488 Pista Spider is the ‘most powerful V8 ever sported by a road-going Ferrari in terms of both its overall and specific power outputs’, explained the brand itself.
But the 296 GTB is where things really get exciting, with the introduction of a new V6 engine.
The car ‘introduces the new 120° V6 engine coupled with a plug-in (PHEV) electric motor capable of delivering up to 830 cv’, the manufacturer stated.
From the outset of the face-off, though, there really was only one winner.
488 Pista Spider vs 296 GTB – the results
“How is that thing faster than a twin-turbo V8?” questioned the 488 driver when the 296 stormed ahead during the first race.
Now, let’s not get things twisted. The 488 Pista is an incredibly powerful car, but thanks to the V6 power, the 296 GTB took the crown in this set of tests.

When accelerating from 0-100km/h, the 488 Pista Spider crossed the line in 3.75 seconds, whereas the 296 GTB stormed it at 3.39 seconds.
Plus, in the all-important quarter-mile drag race, the 296 GTB really took center stage, managing victory in just 10.38 seconds at 230.3km/h.

It was a close call for the 488 Pista Spider, though, with a time of 10.88 seconds at a speed of 222.1 km/h.
So, the V6 396 GTB proved that less cylinder action doesn’t necessarily mean less power – but the 488 Pista Spider still remains a force to be reckoned with.
Ferrari’s success knows no bounds
From new engineering aspects to designs and records, the luxury car brand is always advancing to new heights.
In fact, forget just sticking to the road or race track, the Ferrari SF90 just set a new record all aboard an aircraft carrier.
Plus, the manufacturer even gifted Pope Leo XIV a working F1 steering wheel from Charles Leclerc’s car, too.
