Prince William’s been spotted swapping royal wheels for an electric scooter.
The footage shows him gliding through the Windsor Castle gates – no chauffeur, no convoy.
It’s his go-to ride for the quick trip from Adelaide Cottage to his office at the castle, a commute of barely three miles.
And somehow, that quiet glide has sparked a rather loud debate.

Why it’s sparking a debate
The Prince of Wales reportedly bought the scooter last year for the short ride between Adelaide Cottage and Windsor Castle.
A three-mile loop that would otherwise mean a car or a long walk.
Because it’s all on private land, he’s free to use it whenever he needs.
Turning the daily commute into something quieter and greener.

And supporters are calling it just that – a smart, eco-friendly move that shows he actually lives by the environmental values he talks about.
But there are some critics rolling their eyes, saying he should ‘walk the 10k a day like everyone else.’
Still, it’s hard not to see the charm in it all.
A future king cutting his own path through the estate on two silent wheels, setting an example without making a fuss.
From motorbike to electric scooter: A quieter kind of horsepower
Before fatherhood, William preferred his Ducati 1198S – fast, loud, and famously nerve-wracking for Kate, who once admitted his rides always filled her ‘with horror’.
By 2017 that chapter had closed, replaced by something calmer and more grounded.
These days, his two-wheel choices are electric, and they fit neatly into the royal family’s slow pivot toward sustainability.

King Charles has long been the benchmark, driving an Aston Martin that runs on bioethanol made from wine and cheese and championing green tech decades before it was fashionable.
Prince William’s approach may be subtler, but it sends the same message that the royal family’s environmental streak isn’t just symbolic.
