For most people, Air Force One is a flying symbol of American power that they’ll only ever glimpse from the outside.
But Fox News journalist Bret Baier was given rare access to the aircraft during a trip to Alaska ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting.
While Baier kept his account brief, his report still offered a glimpse into one of the most secure and iconic planes in the world.
For the public, it was a chance to better understand what life is really like on board.

First time in the cabinet room
Air Force One is not the name of a single jet, but rather the call sign used whenever the US president is on board a US Air Force aircraft.

The two planes most often associated with that name are highly customized Boeing 747-200Bs, outfitted with features no ordinary commercial jet could match.
Of course, the US has already started preparing the $400 million jet gifted by Qatar to be used as Air Force One, although the cost to convert it could run up to $1 billion.
Air Force One serves as a mobile White House, ensuring the president can govern, communicate, and respond to emergencies anywhere in the world.
Inside, the layout is designed for both work and comfort.

The front of the plane holds the president’s private office and living quarters, while adjoining sections include conference rooms, a secure communications center, and medical facilities.
Advisors, Secret Service, and staffers all have their designated areas, while members of the press travel in a separate section toward the rear.
According to Baier, while he’s flown in the back of Air Force One multiple times, this is the first time he got to see the cabinet room in the front.
Air Force One doesn’t carry The Beast
Despite its luxury reputation, Air Force One is more about function than flash.
It carries state-of-the-art communications technology, defensive systems, and galleys capable of preparing hundreds of meals.
Interestingly, despite what many may believe, Air Force One does not carry the President’s official vehicle, The Beast, for a very good reason.
While the current Air Force One may get replaced by the new Qatari jet soon, it doesn’t mean that Boeing is out of the equation quite yet.
The company is still ‘laser focused’ on building two new Air Force One planes for the country, with Boeing’s CEO saying that the company is prepared to support the President in any way they can.
