This 82-year-old retired bus driver got behind the wheel of the Tesla Model 3, and despite never being a fan of electric cars, his reaction was priceless.

YouTuber AmpedUp EV took his dad out for a drive to see if he could change his mind when it came to electric cars.

After a lifetime driving gas, the YouTuber hoped a short trip around the block would at least soften his dad’s distaste for EVs.

But he never expected the reaction he got.

EV haters sometimes need a bit of extra convincing

Whilst EVs may be increasing in popularity, there are plenty of people who haven’t yet been swayed.

Both sides have made their arguments at length.

For advocates of electric, the lower costs of recharging compared to gas refills have often been cited.

And with one study finding that EVs were cleaner in practically every way, it’s easy to see why so many are switching over.

On the flip side, gas car owners switch out their cars less than their electric counterparts.

Electric cars have also been linked to higher rates of depreciation, as this Porsche Taycan owner knows all too well.

Those who are cynical of EVs often need a lot of convincing, as Electrifying found out when it took four ‘EV haters’ out for a drive.

But could the dad of AmpedUp EV be convinced?

They picked a short 8-minute ‘test drive’ route, and headed off.

The quiet ride and improved NVH (noise/vibration/harshness) of the refreshed Model 3 didn’t go unnoticed.

There were pros and cons to consider.

His dad enjoyed the acceleration and technology.

He certainly preferred it over the Toyota Camry, which he described as ‘boring and slow’.

What was his verdict on the Tesla EV?

AmpedUp EV tried to persuade his dad to test the full-self-driving feature (FSD), but he wasn’t so sure.

“I don’t like it… I get very nervous,” his dad said.

It took some coaxing, but FSD was engaged.

Whilst the dad watched on nervously, the car changed lanes, signaled, and exited the highway.

In conclusion, his dad described the experience as ‘fun’ and recommended any other interested parties to give the Model 3 a test drive, so it appears the test drive was a success.
