As carmakers look to capitalize on the rapidly shifting market in Europe, Czech brand Škoda has just unloaded a whopping 100,000 units of its new electric SUV: the Elroq.

As the colossal manufacturers in Asia have already made a massive imprint on the markets in China and Japan, eyes have shifted towards Europe,

Many EV makers have begun opening new plants on the continent, in a bid to finally convert the mainland countries that have thrived on diesel and combustion engines for decades.

But beating everyone to the punch is Škoda, as the European brand has been hot on the production of its new electric SUV, and has announced that the 100,000th Elroq has left its factory in the Czech Republic.

Škoda has produced 100,000 Elroq SUVs in EV takeover

While Škoda has been looking at how it can rapidly advance its EV fleet, with brand new concepts, its flagship model, the Elroq, has really been the rock that the company has relied on.

Now, in just one year, the Škoda Elroq has surpassed 100,000 units.

In today’s news, the automaker noted its ‘rigorous preparation’ has resulted in such a quick turnaround.

“Producing 100,000 Elroqs in under a year of series production is a major achievement for the whole team,” Škoda Auto Board Member Andreas Dick said.

“It also reflects rigorous preparation and targeted adaptations to our production processes.”

It’s part of an effort that has been bolstered by 20,000 other EVs in its ownership, becoming one of the leading electric brands in Europe.

“From the outset, we’ve fully leveraged the flexibility to build battery-electric and ICE vehicles on the same line.

“The result is clear: the tremendous response from customers highlights the excellent manufacturing quality of cars ‘made in Mladá Boleslav’,” he added.

Beating everyone to the punch

The gargantuan effort from Škoda is crucial for the brand, which is set to face more competition than ever before.

Having already become the best-selling electric car maker on the continent, Chinese brand BYD is now expected to open up another 2,000 dealerships throughout Europe and stay ahead of Tesla’s Berlin operations.

Xpeng, another EV rival from China, which favors electric SUVs to compete with the Elroq, is also opening its first European factory.

Having been geographically next-door to German brands like BMW and Audi since its opening in 1948, Škoda is really coming into its own with the new electric SUV that’s populating European roads with over 100,000 units.
