This Oregon man had his sights set on driving his solar-powered Tesla Model X down the Pan-American highway, but reality had other plans.

YouTuber Everyday Sandro was going to travel 310 miles between Colombia and Ecuador.

It was going to be a long trip, but could he make it all the way without hassle?

Unfortunately, that wasn’t going to be the case.

Sandro was feeling uneasy about the prospect of the trip, as he anticipated there’d be several issues lying ahead.

Although he was leaving a campground with a full charge, the road heading south had closed overnight.

He hadn’t even set off yet and was already facing some issues – not a good start.

He called in some backup so he and his friends could convoy down together, but they’d have their fair share of problems too.

There was a lot of apprehension due to uncertainty surrounding protests and car bombs in the region.

Oh yeah, and there was something of a charging ‘desert’ too, so they needed every little bit of power they could get.

Fortunately, the custom solar panels on Sandro’s Tesla Model X helped out a bunch in this regard, providing between seven and 10km of extra range on a sunny day.

Did the group make it to their final destination?

Along the way, locals offered hospitality and breakfast.

It would be much needed, as there was some challenging terrain up ahead.

Steep canyons and heavy diesel traffic caused some stress for the team, but they persevered.

While official toll booths were closed, locals were still collecting fees.

Upon reaching a campground with EV chargers, they settled down and reflected on their progress.

“It was quite the mission to get out here,” Sandro told his subscribers, breathing a sigh of relief.

As much fun as road trips can be, they can also offer up a whole range of challenges.

But they sure do make for interesting memories – these guys driving from London to Cape Town can testify to that.

And then there was the group of friends who drove out to Chernobyl.
