The McLaren F1 fleet has become one of the most coveted supercars in the world, and this extra-special and upgraded model just shattered the brand’s sales record as the Sultan of Brunei offloaded it for $25,300,000.
Since it was made in 1994, the McLaren F1 has been an investment that has championed both sides of the investment coin.
Having soared in value, some have missed out on wild profits, while others have jollied their way to the bank with joy and bursting pockets of cash.
However, this special McLaren F1 chassis has now broken records with its sale of over $25 million, and for good reason.

The world’s most expensive McLaren has just sold
Slated as the ‘holy grail’ of supercars, the Sultan’s McLaren F1 went through some intense work before heading to the auction block.
Originally delivered to the Brunei royal with a titanium yellow coat, the supercar was sent back to the carmaker in the UK in 2007 to get some upgrades.
Fitted with an LM-spec interior and a High-Downforce Kit, and now repainted in a pearl white colorless hue, the McLaren F1 was set to fetch a monumental $21 million as it was auctioned by RM Sotheby’s.
However, the final price burst past the expected fee and finally sold for $25,317,500 earlier this week.

It has become the most expensive McLaren car of all time,
Previous sales this year have seen chassis number nine of 64 fetch undisclosed fees, while one man traded in his fiancée, although the actual cost is still to be determined.
The new owner of the chassis number 14, recently owned by the Sultan of Brunei, has not been revealed.

This is just a drop in the ocean for the Sultan of Brunei, though, as he boasts a car collection worth over $5 billion.
Yes, billion.
In fact, it’s the biggest and wealthiest car collection on the planet by more than 200 percent.

With bespoke Ferraris made solely for him and his family, and even bailing Bentley out of bankruptcy with a colossal order, he won’t miss the McLaren F1, and it’s no surprise he cashed in now.
