The Tesla Cybertruck has been dethroned as the best selling EV truck in America.
Whilst it finished 2024 in the top spot, data has shown that it has since fallen to second place.
The data, compiled by S&P Global Mobility, kept track of car registrations in the first quarter of 2025.
The new top dog in EV trucks may come as a surprise.

In the world of EVs, there are a lot of rivalries.
For a long while, Tesla has been the domineering force in the industry, but that’s not guaranteed anymore.
Companies like Li Auto and BYD have been snapping at Tesla’s heels for quite a while now.

Even Jeff Bezos has entered the fray by backing Slate Auto.
The increased competition within the field means that Tesla can’t be assured it will remain number one in EVs.
That has been all but confirmed by recent data, which revealed that the Cybertruck is no longer the number one EV truck in America.
According to figures from S&P Global Mobility, there were 7,126 registrations for the truck in the first three months of this year.
Sounds pretty good, right?
Trouble is, this only secured it second place in the rankings of EV trucks.
Coming out on top was the Ford F-150 Lightning, with 7,913 registrations.

That’s nearly 800 more.
In third place was the Chevrolet Silverado EV, ahead of the GMC Sierra EV, Rivian R1T, and GMC Hummer EV.
After a year of improving sales, things went into a slump for the Cybertruck at the trail end of last year.
This would be the EV’s second quarter of declining sales.

The figures are quite stark.
In the third quarter of 2024, 16,692 Cybertrucks were sold.
By the following quarter, this number had fallen to 12,991.
Within the first three months of 2025, 7,126 Cybertrucks were registered and only 6,404 were sold.
In total, Tesla sold just under 40,000 units – way short of the 250,000 estimate that Elon Musk had predicted.

And it’s not just the only vehicle struggling, as the Model 3 also saw its sales dip in 2025.
In returning to the top spot, Ford is taking back the title that it lost to the Cybertruck last year.
